Candidate Information Iowa General Election 2008
| Candidates for federal and state office were surveyed this year by Iowa Right to Life Committee or the National Right to Life Committee for the election ending November 4th. As has been the policy, surveys are directed at contested races and major party candidates for legislative and executive offices regarding abortion, parental rights, informed consent, public funding of abortion, cloning and killing human embryos, euthanasia and other issues. Results of those surveys, voting records, news reports, candidate statements or pro-abortion group reports were used to determine candidates’ positions. This communication is intended to provide a summary of the candidates’ positions on right to life issues. County candidates were not surveyed but any useful information that is available is set forth. Contact information is provided when no information is available. The survey questions and results and other information regarding pro-life legislation is available by contacting Quad City Right to Life or Iowa Right to Life. Contact information for each of the candidates can be found at the Scott County Auditor’s web site www.scottcountyiowa.com/auditor. |

SURVEY KEY * It has been our experience that in the absence of a voting record that regardless of religious affiliation there is a strong correlation once in office between failure or refusal to respond to right to life surveys and opposition to right to life initiatives. ** County offices make spending, administrative, and regulatory decisions that could impact pro-life initiatives. |
In 1860 Abe Lincoln had this to say about the tactics of those who supported legal slavery:
![]() |
“… those who say they hate slavery, and are opposed to it, but yet act with the … party – where are they? Let us apply a few tests. You say that you think slavery is wrong, but you denounce all attempts to restrain it ...” “We must not call it wrong in politics because that is bringing morality into politics; we must not call it wrong in the pulpit because that is bringing politics into religion ... and there is no single place, according to you where this wrong thing can be properly called wrong!" Pro-abortion politicians use the same specious reasoning Lincoln rejected to silence those who believe all members of the human family deserve the right to life. Don’t be fooled! Don’t be intimidated! Life is too important! |
